We are delighted to offer our support to Nafisha Mamdani, Accounts Assistant, who is running the 2012 London Marathon. This will be Nafisha’s first full marathon, although she’s already done a half marathon a few years ago.
Having been unsuccessful for the marathon ballot on a number of occasions and feeling that time was running out Nafisha decided to do it for charity. Her chosen charity is Sense – The National Deafblind and Rubella Association – Nafisha has to raise £2,000.00 – which is all done via the Just Giving website.
Nafisha chose Sense after seeing how difficult it can be for deaf and blind children on TV. She has also been learning sign language for the last two year and on-reaching Level 2 she intends to volunteer for Sense.
Sense – for deafblind people
Founded in 1955 by a group of parents, Sense is the leading national charity that supports and campaigns for children and adults who are deafblind.
Sense provides a range of services from day support where deaf-blind people have the opportunity to learn new skills and Sense-run houses in the community – where people are helped to live as independently as possible. Their communicator guides offer a vital lifeline to deaf-blind people living in their own homes.
In addition, every year Sense organises around 25 summer holidays for over 120 deaf-blind children and adults. As well as a long weekend breaks for older people with hearing and sight loss. They are also an invaluable resource for specialist advice, on such things as education options and assistive technology.
So, I think we’d all agree this is a very worthy cause – best of luck to Nafisha and really well done.
